Venture Partner – CleanTech
Barbara Puhacz is responsible for identifying promising technologies within the CleanTech field and working with innovators to ready their technologies for commercialization for government, private and industry clients.
With a passion for embracing problems with no current solutions Barbara has successfully managed entire life-cycles for multi-million dollar projects, from proposal to execution to close-out, by challenging conventional thinking and leveraging diverse experts. Her interest in Clean-Tech innovations is a natural progression from challenging traditional methods and models of design & build within both urban and industrial settings.
Barbara joins SIC.Partners with experience in banking, industrial construction, residential development and business development. Her diverse career has spanned from large public companies to fresh start-ups, focusing on operational excellence by leveraging an inter-disciplinary approach.
Barbara first gained insight into the power of innovative design while at Vancouver-based Action Ostry Architects, working to bridge the intended vision of a client with the practical challenges of construction within institutional, community and private industry projects. The hunt for greater challenges then took her to Calgary, Alberta, the energy capital of Canada, where she has since had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of industries, from Banking to Energy to Retail.
Most recently, Barbara was involved in business development at SNC Lavalin representing the firm’s Canadian and American capabilities with existing and potential clients through partnership proposals, negotiations, regulatory audit & compliance, and contract execution.
Under SNC Lavalin, Barbara held leadership positions managing procurement and construction, including a $250MM facility for a major public Oil and Gas company. She has developed industrial quality assurance/quality control programs which can be tailored to specific project or contract requirements, as well as contract & procurement lifecycle improvement programs.
She has held operational and process improvement roles with National Bank’s Corporate & Investment Banking division specializing in Oil & Gas and Power & Utilities, applying best-practices and lessons learned to improve cost effectiveness of client-facing spend, implement performance metrics and optimize back-office expenditures & supplier contract management.
Barbara has also operated her own consulting firm helping companies increase operational efficiencies, and has consulted to start-ups, helping them successfully bring products to market. In 2013 she helped launch a new manufactured food product whose first three years of sales increased 450%.
